I know that some of you have watched students "playing games" on computers and feel that we should stick with "traditional teaching." Please keep your minds open and consider the advantages of technology in your child's classroom...Here are a few ideas:
- Today, many employers require computer skills
- Access to the internet allows a connection with information and contact with people all over the world.
- Rather than seeing a text book picture of the circulatory system students can watch blood running through veins and arteries .
- Students can have email pen-pals with other students in other towns or even countries!
- No longer does the opinion of one teacher influence the young impressionable minds. Now, through technology, students can view the opinions of many voices.
- Every learning style will be challenged!
Our goal is to raise enough money to purchase the following for the classroom...
- Additional computers with internet access
- Student will be assigned states to do a state report about. They will create a Power Point Presentation on that state. As well as a slide show presentation with images they will research and find on the internet. Each student will present their state to the class using images to discuss Natural resources, state parks, general topography, major rivers, major roads, state flag, state bird, state flower along with any interesting facts about the state that they would like to share. They will be required to research the Chamber of Commerce sites for the major cities and learn about important historical people.
- Having the ability to supply our students with this much needed technology will allow for a well rounded approach to learning.
2. Video Recorder
- Students will each be assigned a President. They will prepare a speech as that President as well as a short "Autobiography." They will dress up as that President and be taped making the speech. This will allow students to practice public speaking and will give them the opportunity to critique their skills, This will also allow other students to view them several times during "down-time" in order to meet the state requirement for knowing about our past Presidents.
- Having the ability to video record students giving speeches among other activities performed in the class will allow access for you the parents to view our class projects. This technology will also help our students develop their public speaking skills.
Thanks for you participation. If you have any questions or comments you may submit them right here on the blog. I know throughout this school year you will see the benefit of increased technology. We (faculty and students) appreciate your continued support.
Sincerely,
Mr. Justin
